Another update. I’ve added a “custom XML structure” option to the XML export type. This allows you to generate XML content with any node structure you like.

Unfortunately, it’s entirely lacking in documentation right now so all you have to go on is the example in the page. After I install Django tonight (for an OSCON tutorial tomorrow) I’m going to start on the documentation.

Hi Ben,
what a great work you’ve done with GenerateData i’ve been using it for a while and it is really great. Just when I decided to add the ordering of rows in the table, I realized you’ve already added that functionality. Big ups!! I think it would be great if this software works on SQLite to spare the trouble of having to have MySQL in place just to generate test data. I would be glad to help in that direction, so you can get in touch with me if you are okay with the idea.
Thanks for this product.
Good call – very good idea! However, I’m actually going down a slightly different avenue: I’m working on a Google App Engine version of the script (in Python), which will include an API to request data directly from your own scripts. So you could just call the REST API’s to request (say), 100 lines of emails, names and phone numbers. This would entirely bypass the interface and wouldn’t require you to install anything locally.
Anyway, I appreciate the feedback!

Great tool Ben, I wonder if you’ve ever thought about adding JSON output support?

Hi Eric,
Good idea! But no, that actually hadn’t crossed my mind.
I’ll definitely add that to the list. Thanks!

using http://www.generatedata.com, I got only a blank canvas with chromium 5.0.375.125 (0)or opera 10.60( privoxy desactivated) but it works with firefox 3.6.3 with adblock.
Are you using advanced capablities of canvas not available in chromium or opera ?
